WHAT IT MEANS TO FINISH SCHOOL IN THIS COVID-19 CRISIS
the courage will assure you that you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to
It all seemed a dream, taking you to the corner of your smiles, to the highest of your hope, to the windows of your opportunities , and to the most special places your heart has ever known.
The twinkly face you give when the lecturer says that “All the best in World”, yes, you don’t mind the statement because, it has been a hurdle, sleepless nights, fear of failing and re-taking the damn papers, all these seemed a dream, the curiosity to finish and start waddling to offices and organizations requesting for a position to fit in. All you ever wanted was to get it done.
It can really gets hot in a lecture room where the fans incase your university lecture room has one does nothing but fan more heat, your brain is tied up in your head that you can neither understand the concepts nor see the tutor properly. According to you, the lecturer’s eyes eyes are sapphire , bright and hard.
Your brain at One moment is important, next minute it’s background at best, can’t say which one it prefers. What’s making your head spin are the transitions. you know everything is ‘need-to-know’ and ‘last minute’ for a reason, but there are days it feels like your brain cells have been randomized.
The novel corona virus has shifted everything in a row that one was not prepared for it or knew that this pandemic would hit so hard that the ways of living would shift from face to face interaction to virtual interactions .
Yes, people had to adapt the situation of leaving with Covid-19.The Corona virus crisis saw 90% of the World go in lockdown, instutitions such as education sector also went in lockdown. The impact of the lockdown, have left many people isolated and scared about what the future might bring.
Close to six months, the Government of Uganda came to an agreement that the education institution will re-open and only Final year students will go back to finalize their exams. This came as a decade prayer being answered to many, the excitement, and mixed feeling of finishing was overwhelming. The question that kept ringing in their mind was, “How are we Going to start over again, our brains are blocked, and how are they going to lecturer?”
But, this did not change the minds of institutions as they already knew how to operate during the pandemic and how they will teach, while observing the SOPs. And just like that, we all returned to school
Schools, not everyone has got the opportunity to attend and even reach higher institutions of learning, they stand in the backyard hoping they can at least attend grade one.
Yes, grade one. And here you are, that you got privileged and Congratulations upon your struggle .”Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars” Les Brown quoted.
As you go on, remember all times you spent trying to understand the concept in class, that as you paddled to go to class, it rained on you, and the rain came as a million soul fragments in a chorus together, all asking for what this water plus sunshine and seeds evolved to bequeath to all creation. Each step through was a small prayer and a promise to help you build a better world.
You worked so hard to finish your exams, yes it’s not yet over but it has not been easy .Life changed from the time you put a full stop on your sentence of the last question in your last paper.
There is something unique with courage, you can go anywhere, forward or backward with courage, but the courage will assure you that you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to.
